What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

REALLY happy I have a 300tdi disco in my defender.. steve parkers had the LAST straight down pipe exhaust.. previous owner never used the kit for the mounting of the engine mounts and just welded it straight on... so fitted the exhaust and omg one less stress!

Finished the rear brake pipes, new rear pads, new rear wheel bearings, removed greased rear prop, new rear diff oil, new transferbox sump gasket & new oil, front diff oil.
Rear hub nuts had both come loose as the "specialist" who looked after it for previous owner had not "staked" the stake nuts! Didn't fit a drive flange gasket either.

Took front swivel housing off, changed swivel seal and the seal to stop swivel grease escaping into the axle.
Didn't break a thing, happy days!

Gave it a new big black box of sparkles .
The old 1 didn’t want to refill from the top up sparkle box.
Must drive it more.

Fitted two rear tub support rails - wrangled it without having to raise the tub too. One of them literally fell to pieces as I wrestled with it - I suppose it is 39 years old. The second one from the back probably gets most of the salt spray from the wheels as it's right beside them. The others still look OK, but I changed the rear one as I'd bought it! Whilst spraying black stuff on the new ones I managed to give myself a fine set of black freckles and ruin a hat. Usual stuff...

Well it started with removing the side step.. then the sil as i have rock sliders to go on.. now i've resprayed it black.

Rock sliders are great for preventing damage by those people who open their car doors carelessly.

Wondering what to do for maintance when the sun finally comes out

Mine is due a wash to get rid of the green from the roof!

Picking up momentum now with the Defender. We've decided to take her camping for the Easter weekend, so the goal is to get as much done before then as possible. Setting a trip date has worked great as instead of dawdling we're working towards a goal. To that end, here's what we've done/ in the middle of doing:

• Refitted the A Pillar grab handles. Cut the screws down to proper length and put them back in place, much more secure. I do intend on replacing the screws with something more substantial in the future, they feel very cheap.
• Tested the air mattress in the back for the bed set up, worked well. We have an old memory foam topper to put over the air mattress to make it a bit more comfortable to sleep on.
• The other half is in the middle of sewing some curtains for the bulkhead and the back window to block some light and give privacy. Made from some blankets and sheets from the charity shop, nice and cheap. Working on how to hang and secure them in place, thinking either hung on a wire, or velcroed up.
• Bought some closed cell foam foil backed insulation during the week, started fitting that today. First few bits went up ok, learned a lot so the rest will be easier tomorrow. Looking good so far anyway.
• Bought some supplies, and bits & bobs for the trip (frying pan, camping stove, etc). Pulled some boxes out of the attic to use as storage during the trip.
• Replaced the rear door card with a piece of 6mm MDF. Looks a lot better already, but needs to be painted and secured properly.
• Still haven't fit the drivers side folding step.

To do:

• Fit the rest of the insulation.
• Fit the curtains.
• Sort out some form of water storage so we don't have to keep buying bottles all weekend.
• Make a fold down table for the rear door for cooking etc on. Bought the pieces today to make it (½" ply, aluminium sheet to cover, hinges, etc).
• Take her for a few spins before the weekend to make sure all is well.
• Pack boxes and make sure they all fit in somewhere.
• Put the spare tyre back on the bonnet.
• Phone holder on the windscreen for maps.
• Maybe tint the back window before we go, but I don't know if I want to risk breaking the glass getting it out a week before out trip.

Painting the arches and trim gloss black is put on hold until warmer/ drier weather. It'll go easier if I'm not dodging rain and wind to get it all sprayed. It does look good so far though, even with just the one uneven coat.

Today I fitted a LaSalle headlining into the 90. It was a real PITA to fit. Just as one bit was ok the holes didn’t line up in the back two parts. It would almost have been easier if they hadn’t pre drilled the holes.

In now and looks good i think. Insulated first. It didn’t have one to start so I thought just go for a fully new one. Few plastic clips to replace where they didn’t go in straightaway but I’ve called it a day.

Also put new end stops on bumper which was a few minutes compared to half day with headliner.

Looks great ....

These are plastic aren't they?
Britpart now supply plastic head liners I do believe.
Wonder if they are any good?
Anyway, looks like it was worth the effort.

Fitted a brake pad retaining spring, big job!

Hi. No they are fibre glass painted in a range of different finishes. After first hour felt like binning it but at £500 thought I had better persevere. Two more hours later.

Benefit is it is waterproof apparently.

Think I would persevere at that price also. Mind you probably cheaper than a 2nd hand genuine one.

Yes. Most of the secondhand ones were being sold for a reason! I had been looking for a while but people wanted crazy amounts for ones available and then would have needed re covering. Luckily no safari lights as hard top so slightly easier to fit. Quite thick fibre glass so will last I think but didn’t help with the fettling to fit as not much give.
