My exhaust is getting near the point of needing replacing. (Having said that, I thought that when I bought it a year ago and it's still holding up!). I'm definitely doing away with the cat when the time comes, but I'm toying with the idea of fitting a sports exhaust with just a back box. I'm just worried about how much more noise it will make. Are they much louder than a standard exhaust? Anyone got one that they could video and post?

Cheers
Steve

Ive just done a decat and straight through on a Td5 Fender. Much nicer exhaust note, engine feels much more free, acceleration improved.

However it is louder, not much but noticable. However once your 'through the gears' and sitting in 5th its fine.

Worth doing imo. Personally im thinking about fitting some heat resistant sound proof foam under the car but above the straight through.

Theres many a video on youtube!

I put a straight through from manifold ( did away with the cat ) and a back box

Mine sounds nice and runs a lot better I think if I did away with the back box and had a full straight through it might just get annoying

Best bet is you tube there s loads of video s

My old Td5 had centre silencer replaced with a straight through pipe, slightly noisier, lovely whistle and 5 cylinder thrum though ;)
I did this (along with junking the EGR and fitting a Pipercross air filter) and saw a marked improvement in performance and economy!
Never saw a need to chip/remap it after that...

Word of caution with Paddocks cheap sports exhaust.Yes fuel economy improves, getting 36mpg now and only minimal increase in noise but as its uncoated mild steel mine rotted through in 18 months.Only down pipe still usable.Had to replace the rest.

Thanks for the advice. Watched a few YouTube videos and the noise isn't too bad, so I've decided to go with just a back box.
