Today's tale is a tale of two halves.
She went off yesterday to be given some needed tlc from the LR loving mechanic . No, honestly, he loves them! Weird boy:D
She got lots done :) Remember the whistle? Sorted. Hairline crack in exhaust = nice new part.
Two front wishbones done. Squeal from new brake pads sorted.
However! Whilst fixing the exhaust he saw other issues. Oil in the intercooler pipe. Oh bugger! Seals are gone on turbo :(
Whilst searching for brake squeal something else popped up. Of course it did it's land rover product. The rear plates and discs are buggered. Oh well.
Subframe also needs a bit of welding.
Oh and not forgetting the rose bushes for hubs!
It's a good job I love her and he is a masochist mechanic laugh-emoji.gif

Nearly forgot: anyone used any of the recon'd turbos from Ebay. Especially those coming out of Germany?

I'd work on a L322 over a Poogeot any day of the week!

All turbos weep oil kiddo, they seal up as they heat and don't forget the engine breather give a constant oil film Into the intake circuit. One way is to remove the turbo output pipe and watch if there is an excessive oil flow. And... And.. If your oil doesn't drop considerably then it's not weeping that much;)

Oil has dropped considerably. I was actually embarrassed when he asked if I don't check my oil. He had to put oil in to get it past low. I only checked a few days before. :(
His comments was 'pipe was full of oil'. When he took it off it poured out. Which is a lot of oil.
At 20yrs, original turbo and she's lagging on acceleration, I have been waiting on this news. I'd rather be on right side of cautious. Also he is as big a LR nut as most of us, so knows his onions.

Any thoughts on the recon'd from Germany? TIA

Ooh, thats à different thing all together gold, would it not be better to get one closer to home? A British supplier maybe. If its cheaper there's always a reason unfortunately. If it's closer to home you've a better chance of support if there's an issue?

The proof will be in the pudding I suppose. ;)
I wouldn't to be honest.

Problem being the UK suppliers are selling chinese made. Cheapest 'usual' is over £900. The German one has good feedback. I've also found with other parts f rom Europe there's less hassle than UK. Some of the usual have been a bloody nightmare over my 12yrs of ownership.
I know it's usually buy cheap buy twice but I could buy 3 for UK price, and it's recon'd garrett I'm looking at.

I understand your concerns there gold. o_O

A few trips in a KIA and the work on the Rovers will seem worth doing ;)

It's most certainly a different experience, I'll give you that! Although, I may add, not an entirely unpleasant one. I think there's a small hole in the exhaust at the moment and it sounds a bit throaty. Makes me feel like a rally driver (albeit a rather tepid one).

What's going on there then:eek:

Ha! They're Range Rovers :D

1993 200TDi has gear issues
2004 Vogue has a suspected timing chain nylon guide issue but is also missing on two cylinders. I almost thought about selling it while everything was (mostly) working but then I took it on a longish drive and fell in love with it again. Then it broke down.

Talk her into swapping it for a little Fiat, I think every one has an exhaust leak but they never do! Such a peppy, throaty little engine... still no substitute for a Rover though!

Missing on 2 cylinders that match firing order / coils for just being one dodgy coil / tracking plug lead?
When Otto had dodgy plug leads there were 2 leads but on different coils, each taking 2 cylinders out when they tracked.
