If my car was that unreliable I would have torched it years ago!

i had an alfa 156 last christmas that i gave people a lift in to the office party. They looked a bit surprised when after turning the key and it started i was all excited!

then it broke down at the pub! :whoosh:

Changed the (auto) gearbox oil, with some more Lucas in it. (Changed the filter 5k ago so this is part of plan to get it properly sorted). Then changed brake accumulator. I didn't even know that I needed to until I read the 'What's next to do ...' thread. Now the pump comes on every 5 pedal presses, previously 2. Hope there's not been too much wear on the pump. Easy to do, 10 min job. LR replacement £200+, Wabco from Island 4x4 (delivered in 2 days) £100. Thanks are due (yet again) to all the wise ones for their good advice...

Finally managed to fix the rear windows on me classic :)
After many attempts to sort it I finally found the problem.... the relay circled in the pic had 3 dry joints, had looked for them before with no luck... took a magnifying glass to find them ! A few minutes with the soldering iron and working windows :D

Well Brother and Dad went to get some more wood and metal for a new shed we're building, they went in the Transit leaving the Rangie at home. Glad they did as they forgot to bring in all the Electric items like drills etc. So to the rescue I go and get the things in the back of the Rangie!

Replaced my MAF sensor. Only £26 from the landrover centre in Speke. Quite pleased with myself as the chap who diagnosed the MAF sensor faulty wanted £119 + vat and half an hours labour which would've been about £170 all in. Nice. Instant fix. Engine was running real lumpy and poor acceleration. Now its back to being a beast.

If you filled it with petrol and it was a diesel that would be a little neglectful don't you think? Look for damp contamination on lower board (the one immediately behind the display and controls) where the flying lead connector is soldered in. Clean off and coat with a few layers of clear nail varnish.

Nail varnish:eek: Very harmful to some plastics and components, buy a tin of conformal coating.:)

He was using whatever was to hand at that moment, and he was doing his nail's. What colour Tony? :D:D:D

Clear nail varnish is fine on mylar boards, copper and solder. As a matter of fact nail polish can used as an acid barrier when making home made printed circuit boards. It will do the job of sealing the joints from moisture ingress very well.

Never ever seen a PCB made of mylar, would cost a fortune, maybe in the avionics industry. PCB's are made of GRP or cheapo's are Paxolin.
Acetone is the basis of most nail varnishes and is destructive.
