What are these and are they useful?

Hello all, I have just bought my first L/R (110 Defender, 1991). It came with these bars down either side, in the back. So, they're bolted on the top of the wheel arch, and resting against the side panels.

Could anyone tell me what they are supposed to be for, and if they're useful/effective at it? If not I'd prefer to take them out ready for the camper conversion we're planning.

Hello.

I'd guess they have something to do with the bulkhead being removed, not quite sure how they would work though.

Probably a silly question,

But does the 110 not normally have a bulkhead behind the drivers seat? Cos if it does , yours is missing.

Also if those wires in the picture are still live you really want to get a grommet on them.

Cheers

Oh, the wiring!!! We spent most of last weekend chasing wires from one place to another on the Defender, taking out bits that weren't attached at either end or fitted some modification that was taken out in 2004. I think they should be live, but then the rear windscreen wiper doesn't work so they probably aren't. Another little job.
