Today has been bad. I drove from Leeds to Birmingham for a meeting, was a little early so thought Id have a bacon sandwich. When I tried to lock the car on the bilper it wouldnt lock, so I used the key. HMMM
Went into shop and when I came out tried to open her on the blip, again nothing. The lights worked on the blip, but no responce. I opened the car on the key, but you guessed it, engine imob came on.
I went through the sequence, to emergancy unlock, and nothing. At this I called the AA.
They tried and put the car into lock down. So had to be recovered back to Leeds on the back of an AA truck.

Car delivered to Guy Salmons in Leeds. They tried the key, and after 5 mins like magic it all worked. Engine started, and wow away we go.
Not quite. The check engine light is on, and she wont change up. The friendly sevice manager took her for a quick drive, and told me that if you rev to 3000 the she will change up, but thats not right. So now I'm in the hands of my LR service network, oh hell.

The cars a P38 2.5 DSE 1996. Any clues as whats happening.

Only thing I would add is i fitted the hot starting mod yesterday, didn t like the responce from it, so removed it all, and put things back as they were, well almost. The grey blue temp sensor is joined by a slighty thicker grade of wire. All joints are soldered. As the cars in the dealer garage I havnt had chance to check the joints, clould this be the cause?

Sorry the length of the post

Dave

I had pretty well the same thing happen to me, but not with such disatrous consequences. I picke my p38 up from the dealer in Stourbridge and got 15 miles into the journey back to Anglesey and the..*>**?,,! thing boiled up. I stopped and phoned the AA. In the meantime the doors locked. I blipped them open and they locked again immediately. If I was quick I could unlatch the three other doors to the driver's but they all re locked. The driver's was deadlocked whatever happened. After 15 games of chess, 43 rubbers of bridge and 3 games of monopoly the AA guy showed up, dealt with the boil up and diagnosed a stuck armature in the driver's door. I continued climbing the centre consol to gain access to my seat. Then- stopping for petrol I automatically opened the door and, damn me, it opened normally. What I've been doing since as, I gather from greater mortals than I, the locking/immobaliser mechenism can get out of synch is after each blip of the blipper [or bilper if you have one] turn the key in the direction of the blip action. It hasn'r happened since. I'll still dismantle the door and squirt things in sight when I get the motor back from its LPG conversion. There, that just about beats your account for verbosity. regards, P.S

Update, still havnt got my car back. It has been stood at the LR dealer since Monday evening, They say is in a queue to get onto diagnostics. Mine is number 8 last night they wee on number 4. S**t.

Dave,

Have you replaced your RF receiver? It sounds like your RR still has the old defective RF receiver on the car (original part number AFR1953). Regardless of what other issues your experiencing, most of which can be explained by this part not operating correctly.

I have mentioned this on several threads now and you have to understand that even when your RR is on a testbook, your RF receiver will never show up as being faulty and need replacing. Thats because its not faulty just defective. You need to be as a P38 owner proactive and seek this part to be replaced by your specialist or offical dealer and replaced with part number: YWY500170. This will transform the reliability of your RR.

In 2004 LR officially recognised that the P38's RF receiver wasnt working correctly and was effected by spurious RF signals ranging from CCTV systems at train/shopping malls, airports etc car parks to garage door openers and even as stupid as weather stations.

These spurious RF signals will wake up your BECM and drain your battery and also create so much problems that you will be locked out and you will need to be flat trucked back to a dealer.

My guess is the same as yours. I havnt replaced the RF reciever, and I guess the previous owner hasnt either.
Now I have the car back from the dealers this is now on the list of changes.
First issue was why the check engine light was on. Now resolved, cant explian why it resolved it, but I fitted Tigapiglets hot start fix again. This time even though all the connections were as before it worked perfectly, also the check engine fault disapeared.
And your right LR couldnt find anything wrong with the locking once they'd unlocked the issue the AA caused.
