Looks good but my tow bars a lot higher than yours. I'll have to do some tweaking when I get a chance. But I just been informed I gotta put to classic cars in my garage for a while so that's all out the question for a while. I'll get me chassis and ring put back on, then its time to have a think about a NATO jobby

It slides right up to the nato if required

if the rear towing eye don't give the rear radius arms/trailing arms will bend. Was looking for a photo of a snatch wea the axle hanging off. Your right allways do some digging work to remove some of the stress. The plate works but if your cross member has rot it will give eventually,

Axle recovery ;)

never pull on an axle just fecks things up, the snatch had been recovered in the salt flats in Basra by a CVRT rearwards, ripped the axle clean off, I,ve a photo some where with it on the back of my Foden after we went to sort out the emmmm feck up:rolleyes:

Please find that photo! :D

Well I think the moral of the story here is NEVER "snatch" when pulling/towing out!! Only asking for trouble, plus their should be no need for it if youv half a brain cell working! Lol

Snatching is often the only way to shift a vehicle though.

Amazing how correct rope for job makes a difference.

We were once trying to lightly snatch my lightly stuck disco out of some ruts but was so sloppy the other vehicle just stopped dead/couldn't get pace up.

We were using a tow strap because I couldn't be bothered fetching and then getting muddy the kinetic rope.

However we decided it must be done, and after rigging up it yoinked it out like there was no problem.

Was quite remarkable to be in the situation to compare both methods so acutely.

Learnt stuff that day :)

totally agree on correct ropes. Thats what they are disigned for. A little tug on a normal strap wont hurt but with a run up causes amazing amount of sudden stress and will only brake some thing. Oh and as he discovered always go from tow bar or as suggested a proper hitch.

Would like to see the pic of the back axle.

Some good YouTube videos of axle removal

Best I ever saw personally was a pajero stuck in deep water at Cowm

Lots of fishing around underwater and eventually a disco is connected to the pajero

It's up to the door handles so it's difficult for the lads to find the recovery points

Anyway so after some fair tugging this pajero will not shunt, until bang and something breaks

The disco driver carries on and to our hysterical enjoyment oh no, the strop had not broken, but the winch bumper had ripped off the front of the car, dragging bumper, winch, lights and straggly wiring out of the water leaving pajero still sat there

That was comedy gold :D

Wait out. I need to scan a copy and upload. But wont be till later in week. Checked my old hard drive its fecked.

Right I,ve scanned this as my old computers hard drive has gone tits and I think I've lost all pre 2005 photos!:(

Right not the best , but that is a Snatch rover with the rear alxe ripped off.

The chains you see is because when the tit tried using a kinetic rope he ripped not only the jate rings but also ripped the towing eye. So therefore it required a belly lift.

You can see the bent trailing arms still though.....kinetic ropes are sh!te hence why we don't use them....use a winch or spend time digging out your vehicle before attempting to tow recover!

Ha how funny!

Although you do realise they are not called towing eyes don't you? You have to refer to them as tie down rings otherwise you must be clueless

sorry! for the civvies on here the "nato hitch":D...if I ever figure out to sort out my old hard drive I,ll post more.......back to my original statement, too many clueless folk think recovery is just pulling something out.....I,m afraid its not.;)

its not ! it puts far to much shock through the equipment, and yes it may be a kinetic rope but nobody that carries out recovery uses them!
