Webasto heater

Im looking into fitting a Webasto heater, im running a 200 TDI
( - the T ) in my series.

I see there are a few on fly bay but which one would be the best as from which vechile to suit being fitted in the engine bay.

Also can I run this of a small tank of red diesel ?

Im thinking more on a water heater that the room heater..

Where can I find this info ?

"Where can I find this info ?" Google OLLR to find a Land Rover forum, RMS is on there.
Also Google Old Land Rover Arms (seriously series) Land Rover forum you will find Robin on there as well. I use a D5 Eberspacher as a workshop heater the bigger versions give serious heat for little cost.

and less than half the price of the webasto water heater as used in barges/landrovers/most modern diesels

i have a webasto coolant heater and dosing pump but no controller, just the controller is expensive, nothing comes for free

Robin has sorted out a very good deal for those that want to take advantage of it, even more so as it's a standalone unit that can easily be moved into your new motor should you buy a new one

£499 for a new one is out of my range... on fly bay they are up for grabs from £50 average about £80/90 freelander,rangerover, rover ? which one would suit best.

all the rr/fl/rover ones are the same near as makes no difference but it needs to be a thermotop Z/C (C is the important bit as far as i can make out from memory), you'll then need a dosing pump (40quid or so), an exhaust and a controller panel (100quid i think from the canal boatyards from memory), without a dosing pump and an aftermarket controller panel they're no more than a doorstop, unfortunately it's not just a case of attach 12v and a switch as far as i have found and information is hard to find so do your research and be positive that you can achieve the desired result before lashing out on the bits

i just hope you find one that the board inside hasn't gone pop or other faults or you'll be back in doorstop realms, i've seen RRs with these that refuse to ignite and just bung clouds of unburnt fuel out

so any faults and you may be needing diagnose the fault and buy new parts, i've no idea of prices on repair parts so whichever heater you buy make sure it's from a reputable seller

Mate of mine has just paid £280 as a cash job for a control board on his camper van Eberspacher D2. The threads stripped in part of it on strip down which I helicoiled for him, makes £480 seem cheap. I was lucky with my second hand D5 I use as a workshop heater but still had to buy a 240v to 24 volt transformer to run it (ex truck so 24v)

I've no axe to grind one way OR the other ....BUT Robin is a cracking guy AND test runs all of the heaters before sending them out to buyers.

YES second hand ones can be found cheaper on Ebay BUT can often be on their last legs (IF they work at all )
Any bits missing are bloody expensive too (Ive had several in the past with mixed results )

Horses for courses BUT if i was in the market for another then I know where I'd be spending my dollar .

Yes, you can - a friend ran one off a jerrycan, but he was running a diesel heater in a petrol car, so had no choice...

It's a bit pointless, though, imho - the space and hassle would massively outweigh the savings. The '80s Eberspacher in our VW camper is apparently rated to burn just one quarter of a litre per hour at full-whack, and it'll get the interior (a good chunk more volume than a 109SW) comfy from frozen in less than half an hour, so after that it's running light to just keep the heat topped up.
