Hi,
I have been trying to track down a fairly intermittent warp warp warp noise (I have already checked and its not Klingons...). Happens in 2nd and third and only for a few seconds, Removed the rear prop thinking cheapest first and UJs. Took it to work today with the center diff locked and there is noticably more backlash in the transmission. But the warp warp warp noise is now much more frequent and seems to be mostly when turning right so I am thinking CVJ or wheel bearing. Definitely not the rear prop as its still in me garage. I see Paddocks do CV kits for 32 quid but the pic shows Britpart grease and this is the sort of job I don't want to repeat too soon. Anyone done their CVs lately and would care to reccomend a manufacturer/supplier? I had already discounted LandRover as they wanted nearly 50 quid per UJ!
Cheers,
Mike.

try it with rear prop on front off , transmission will have more backlash as diff lock collar is a slack fit on front output shaft by design, ive got on alright with bp cvs so far

Cheers James,
Rear prop on and front off on Thursday, got work tomorrow.:( Ill let you know how I get on. Do like the price on those Paddock CVs and comes as a kit-which is good for me. I did have a good look at the rear prop and I can feel no play in it with a hand wiggle but i did clamp the prop in the vise and bolt a long (3ft) ally beam to the end and then give that a wiggle and there is a very small amount of play in each UJ. Both UJs have done 95K so don't owe me anything. Got some new UJs coming tomorrow if FedEx can find me back garden this time. Worth changing them? I wasn't going to....
Cheers,
Mike.

a 3ft bar would find play in anything:)by hand is enough ,though they can stiffen by becoming dry but have no play to begin with but make a noise

Thanks James,
I'll get some proper work done on Thursday and post what I find.
The props have been regularly greased, think I'll leave the rear UJs alone.
Mike,

Well, noticed that the TC light was coming on when in Front WD and warp warp warp noise. Rear prop on and front prop off and all is quiet and no TC lights. I believe the TC detects speed from the CVs at the front, so I will be looking at replacing CVs. Best to change both or best guess? I can feel no play in the front prop when clamped in the vice, and there is no play evident in the front wheels, both horizontally and vertically.
I have ordered two CV kits from Paddocks the only question now is, do I change both sides?
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi,
Best guess was LHS and a quick test drive revealed I had guessed wrong. Replaced the other and all is quiet. The price of the Britpart kit from Paddocks was too good to resist, I'll see how long they last.
Took the old ones apart and there is a very small worn groove in the bearing carriers. MY CV kits supplied by Paddocks came with lip seal FTC840 which doesn't fit with the CVs supplied. I had to buy FTC5268 from the main stealer at £10 a go. F**K knows what a CV kit would cost from LandRover.
Cheers,
Mike.
