I'm new on here so hope I've put this in the right place.
When I got my Freelander in 2004 I had the IRD go after only 6 months. £1500 later it went again and this time was told the viscous coupling had gone as well. I want to know if it was the VC that took out the 2nd IRD or just coincidence. It was the VC how do I tell when it is on it's way out? I've noticed over last few weeks that on full lock reversing to the left, after 2m I feel a clunk like wheels skipping. Doesn't do it reversing to right.
I've got Freelander I Diesel 2000 W reg.

Go for a drive for a couple of miles if the VCU is hot you may have trouble, it takes a while for it to heat up to running temp if you drive round and round roundabouts it will heat up quicker.

When you do the test if the weight drops fairly quickly this is good but very slowly = bad
