2002,diesel,engine temp light was on so changed the sensor, light not on any more, noticed that the fan runs all the time now,i havn't done anything to the fan

no havn't read up,never ran all the time before, someone said i would have to get it re-set with hawkeye or nanocom

A functional viscous fan will always spin but then a D2 a/c fan can be permanantly on after being switched on by an over heated engine, and yes the sensor will require resetting via Testbook or similar. Don't know anything about "hawkeye or nanocom" sorry.

If a D1 with a/c fan then u have a problem with the sensor as it's should be self-resetting.

the viscous fan is a mechanical device and has nothing to do with any electrical system..

i've taken mine off months ago, saves fuel, doesn't overheat,

I believe the air con fan will run if engine temp gets too high and can remain on until reset with diagnostics tool. Is the fan you are talking about in front of the radiators, ie nearer the front bumper or the one adjacent to the engine, ie behind the radiators and furthest from the front bumper ?

As has been said, the viscous fan and the A/C fan are completely separate.

It is correct that the A/C fan will come on if an overheat is sensed to help with cooling, and it would appear that it has to be re-set.

I dont belive that getting rid of a properly functioning viscous fan has ANY advantages to the TD5 motor.

The fan " locks up " when its hot, providing cooling, and free wheels when its cool.

I think that fact that it spins causes a lot of people to think that its being " driven " all the time, therefore " sapping " engine power.

I think its ironic that people say the D2 is plagued with to many troublesome electrical problems, and yet replace a simple, reliable mechanical cooling fan with an electrical one.
