I've done searches but not been able to find a definate answer to my problem.

My ABS has a nasty habit of cutting in when the wheels aren't locking or in danger of locking.

i.e. you press the brake pedal lightly to slow the vehicle and the ABS cuts in, you get vibration through the pedal and the car doesn't slow down no matter how hard you press the pedal.

No light comes on so the ABS itsself doesn't seem to think there is an issue.

My car has new wheel bearings all round and new swivels and bearings so there's not excess play anywhere.

I've read talk of a 16 pin connector under the dash (presumably OBD style) but I think this must only apply to the later cars as I can't find one on mine.

Has anyone else experienced the above problem?

Can anyone tell me where to find a diagnostic connector for the ABS and how to read fault codes?

I've had another hunt around under the dash and I can't find an OBD connector or the 5 pin connector I've heard about. All I can find is a 20 pin blue connector approximately the same size as an OBD connector but I can't find any information on it. :(

You need to look for a blue 4pin connector, its years since I hooked up to one of these, plug could even be under the passenger seat like the early RRC's.The fault is most likely a low output from one of the wheelspeed sensors, try tapping them in.The ABS lamp and paper clip method of code reading will work on these as on the old RRC's.

Thankyou. I've now found a blue 4 pin connector. 2 of the wires have been cut from the back of the plug. I now can't find out where they go :s I still have a black/pink wire and a white wire. I presume I can just earth the black pink wire? I don't suppose you know why a relay has to be removed and which one it actually is?

Pita mine did it all the time. Bloody dangerous at T juncitions.
A friends is also now doing it, so if you suss it please post solution.

My local garage never Sussex it. In the end I disabled the system so at least I knew what would happen when I braked.

I'm not so hot on Disco ABS but IIRC the connector is on the passenger side behind the glove box as is the relay. I'm fairly sure if you do a search for "blink code" you will get lots of info for range rover and disco.

The systems do differ slightly but both are Wabco. Some blink codes I think are different but the method for getting a blink code is the same. Sorry can't remember why relay has to be pulled but blink code doesn't work if you don't. I also think it has something to do with enabling the codes to be cleared off the ABS ECU.

I would also mention that it would be worthwhile checking the earth connections for the ABS system.
