To protect your bonnet. pass the catch cable that runs accross the top of the grill though a length of plastic or copper tubing tie wrapped to the upper grill frame. This will stop them sliding their stotty fingers through the grill and unlatching the bonnet, which they can then just lift straight off the car and into the back of their transit.
A length of bike lock cable with a padlock or combination lock looped through your spare wheel will slow them down when they come to nick it. Oil the lock well and keep the key/code with your jack.
if you bling the car up with shiny bits and decalls they are less likely to target it, but you will be driving a blinged up fender and people will point and laugh at you, see twisted website for examples.
An Ardcase pedal lock will also stop them driving the thing away unless they are very very determined. Best of luck.
