Veggie power

Well as sugested last week, I am now for the first time running a straight 50/50 mix. As usual so wierd looks at Tescos when putting in the veg oil from 3ltr bottles but hey, saves taking the bottles home. Then drove over to the filling station to top up with Diesel with the 5p a litre off voucher I had just gotten lol.

All good so far;
Sounds smoother, runs a little better I think and apart from a small puff of black smoke on startup and the odd small wiff of a chipshop Im happy.

Just a heads up for you guy's trying veg-make sure your lift pump is a Delphi-one with the screw on top (underneath there is a screen that can be cleaned).I made the mistake of fitting a britpart one and my bio noshed the diaphram in a couple of months-took ages to fathom out-now bio is a better solvent than veg,but would not want anyone else to go through this hassle-Delphi ones can normally be got for around £25.00

Well guys 60miles running around town and the old girl is still going well. The engine seems quieter and runs more smoothly. I have yet to swap the fuel filter but all good so far.

And yes you do smell like a chippy in traffic

Leave the filter until it clogs-you will know-it might not happen,depends what your tank was like

Just been Into ASDA and the Veg oil is now £1.44 ltr or £3.70 ish for 3 Ltrs......

No Vegitables for the Disco this week as Diesel is only £1.35 in Ipswich this week. unless someone else knows where I can get it cheeper.....

Stu. Try fish trade supplies. Give them a call tomorrow and ask the price on 20 l rapeseed oil in the red and yellow cardboard boxes.

Last time I looked it was a pound a litre.

Its ok if you got a Netto near you....... Ipswich's nearest is Witham..... 30 miles away.... 60 mile round trip that does make sense...

Thats "big society" then is it? Sounds like more Big Business to me....and look where those barstards have got us recently

I run mine on 100% bio and as well as a spare filter I would also carry a few bits of fuel return pipe. The braded bits about 4" long that go between the injectors.

Twice now mine have perished from bio I presume in the past year. The last time the back of my Disco was covered in bio and so was the trailer i was towing. I thought the heavy fuel consumption was caused by the trailer as i had used 3/4 of a tank in 150 miles. I got home on less than half after fixing the leak with a bit of PVC pipe from B&Q so it had been leaking quite bad.

I now change mine when i service it every 5000 miles

Excuse my ignorance, but whats difference tween rapeseed/corn/sunflower oil? If any? Been using rapeseed as i was told it had to be that.

LET farmer John answer this; I'll but this in words you can understand;

Rape seed oil made from rape seed

corn oil made from corn

sunflower oil made from sunflower seeds
