Hi

Just joined forum, does anyone have a roof and side panels for a 1984 110? I want to change it from a truck cab to a hard top. I've searched the For sale forum but cant find anything.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I've been looking on ebay for a while, very few come up. Nearly bid on one today but it was a bit bashed and too far. Im in Pembrokeshire and it was in Kent! Although I would be prepared to travel if it was in good nick.

Luckily for you, you're in a pretty good situation. At the moment, there are a hell of a lot of people wanting to do the opposite, and turn a hard top or a station wagon into a truck cab. I'd suggest that you offer a swap with someone. Truck cabs are very hard to find, and there are plenty of people, no doubt with 110 hard tops, who are looking for them to make a high capacity pickup. Put your truck cab including rear window, ledge and fixings in the for sale section as a swap for a 110 hard top. Someone will be dying to swap and they might be prepared to come to you / meet half way etc. ;)

hi, keep lookin on ebay..its worth ringing or contacting ebayer who has posted item,, i picked up 2 vansides for a tenner by doing that. sometimes they just advertise one part but have the full vehicle... there seems to be loads of breakers around the midlands....good luck

Thanks for the info guys really helpful, POS out of interest why are there lots of people wanting to convert to truck cabs? I would have thought they wouldnt be as versatile as a hard top. I noticed they seemed to be going for big money on ebay.

A truck cab is generally regarded as a much more versatile and an endlessly more practical choice over the hardtop. There are three primary factors, the first being with regards to the rear load space. You'll find that a 110 with van sides is a lot more restrictive than an open load space like you have with your pickup. It makes transporting large cumbersome objects a pain when you have to make them fit through the relatively small door at the back. With your pickup you can chuck anything in the back, and it doesnt really matter if it's a little wider than the landy because there are no van sides to get in the way. The second factor is flexibility. With a truck cab you have te option of fitting a removable hood set or a canopy, so if you were wanting to sleep in the back for example, you'd certainly be able to get away with it with the addition of either a hood set or a canopy for example. Obviously with a hard top you can remove the sides, but your stuck with a roof that runs the length of the whole vehicle or no roof at all! The third factor is the cool factor. A lot of people simply regard pickups as being a more attractive option. It's purely down to personal opinion.

As for availabilty, there always tends to be more hard top parts available than truck cab parts, because generally speaking, there are more hard tops or station wagons about.

One point Pos missed - Truck Cabs seem to be prefered for Play and plays ect as they is less for a tree to catch on

I disagree. Truck cabs are the least sort after body style. There's no ****in room in the cab and you can't leave anything in the back cos some tw&t will nick it.

hey im from altrincham in cheshire and i converted my 90 van into having windows by a lot of jigsawing and measuring so i have tips and the answers if thats what you want to know? also if your after side pannels and you prepared to go o stockport i can put you in contact with my landy breaker who has pannels and windows, anything you need lying around with quite regular amounts of new stuff coming in.. will

its true... all prancing round in their pretty rangrovers and Q7's and then moving out of the way for me and my beast!!

Thanks for all the info guys! I can see the pros and cons for truck cabs now. It is actually quite handy as a truck cab for moving logs and hay around in the back but unfortunately there is no space in the cab for tools, kids and dogs, so its got to go!

Will - I would be grateful if you could let me know your breakers no., Im trying to find something local first but realise I might have to travel.

cheers
