v8 non started but turning over

v8 on carbs but with late dizzy with amp pack on the side. engine spins but does not fire. its sparks once at the coil and thats all. (tried different coil) any ideas guys???

Duff ignition amp?
Do you have a ballast resistor in the circuit -they can cause problems.

Run ignition checks - do a search they have been posted a few times.

Sounds like ignition amp or maybe a pickup problem perhaps.

If it's got one good spark but no more I'd suggest the amp too.

well nice try guys but not the amp. looks like it might be the dizzy as the rotor seem to have alot of vetical travel. might be lifting to much at not making a proper contact in the cap. Anybody heard of this before

lots of vertical travel probablt means that the top nylon bush has broken up- its what holds the top half of the dizzy shaft onto the bottom half.

top half holds rotor arm, bottom half holds advance weights - if it lifts up too much then it can pop out of line and the timing will go way out

needs the dizzy stripping/checking, and no doubt a rebuild kit would help

can you check no1 tdc at your current dizzy setting and see if it is far out?

im just gonna swap dizzys with another i have should work. come to thinng of it im not even sure the rotor are rotates, i never checked
