Hi there what sort of mpg are you getting in a v8 also how many miles are you getting out of ££ worth gas

I really want a v8 disco on gas

Cheers

Mine drops to 14-15mpg when on LPG which am told is good. It normally returns 18 on petrol but with LPG at 70p/l it works out 28-30 mpg in turns of cost per mile, which is about the same as my Td5.

If you give it some beans or take it off road don't expect to see double figures for very long.

In what way does it make the engine weak?

Ours tows 3.5 tonnes with virtually the same performance on gas than with petrol, no noticeable difference.

Peter

Gas burns a lot hotter and those old RV8's just love the heat(NOT). Can cause slipped liners and HGF. That means its more likely. the power difference is minute in the favor of gas though I believe!

LPG has only 85% of the calorific value of the same amount of petrol, so it is impossible for it to create more heat. It can only make 85% as much.

Not sure how many mpg mine does, whatever it is it's not very good. I visit the petrol station about 3-4 times as many times as my friends who drive "normal cars".

However when I start thinking of the money I could be saving all I need to do is press my toe down on that accelerator and listen to that V8 tell me of all the reasons that my decision to drive it were right!

ha ha, like it!

Whatever the economics, we have to have the V8 to tow our trailer with the show engine inside, there aren't that many 3.5tonne rated cars these days, and the cost of running a D2 in reasonable condition isn't that bad.

Spares are cheap, reliability is good on ours, we haven't had a failure in four years, but we do keep up with repairs and maintenance.

We have sufficient new and used spares to keep us going for another 5 years at least, and there is a spare chassis waiting to go in if the existing one gets too frilly round the edges

18mpg on petrol about 16mpg on LPG when driven gently, much worse when pushed!

Don't listen to the LPG scaremongers. Rover V8s are an excellent engine to convert to LPG.

Slipped liners and cracked blocks happen just as often in countries where LPG is not available and in cars without LPG fitted.

Blame slack Rover engineering, not the fuel.

A V8 without an LPG conversion is never going to be economical. I got 25mpg going 50mph on the M4. That's an auto as well with A/T tyres. Round town I don't know but not very much. But who cares about such things, its not my daily driver and was never intended to be. So if economy worries you, forget a V8 (unless you go for LPG).

I didn't go for an LPG personally just because of my experiences on a Suzuki a few years back (unreliable) and friends recently who have had issues with a brand new conversion. I'm sure most are fine but I just didn't want one that had been messed with.

I get around 14mpg mixed motorway and back roads, I havent got any complaints about LPG, its a pain in the arse if your going somewhere where LPG stations are few and far between but the savings in running costs are pretty good.

I get between 16-18 MPG on LPG on a good motorway run. On a full tank (I usually get 80 ltrs in my 95 ltr tank) i can get 300 miles. @ 66p / Ltr around 17-18p/ mile.
Never had a problem with my Tartarini sequential system.

I have a v8 on gas, carnt say I have noticed a dramatic drop in power when running on gas, mate at 66 pence a liter at the moment its a dam site cheeper to run than petrol, I did the isle of wight return from Stafford on a full tank and a top up on the way back I average around 250 miles on 80 litres of gas that's with the car loaded and on the motorway, around town im looking at 220 miles on a full tank im running on a zavoli multipoint injector system with 2 torpeado tanks under the body,
