V6 Inlet manifold rattle

You need the plastic 'inlet manifold chamber' it fits on the two metal inlet manifolds by 'O' rings. It houses the vis valves and actuator arm. they are all plastic and when I cut my old one open, the ball and socket joints between the arm and butterfly valves were worn and broken.
Its not to difficult to change, I found the hardest bit was two 10mm bolts right at the back of the manifold which hold cables or pipes, as you can't see them and have to undo them by touch.
Read Phil004 instructions and dont forget to have the free software upgrade done first.
If you take off the vis motor, (2 on drawing) the arm can be accessed. It should move back and forwards quietly not flat around and rattle.

Just bought one for £57.60 inc VAT and delivery via breakeryard.com.

Better than the £900 quoted by Landrover.
was the part u recieved the "Manifold" or the "Manifold Chamber" i am having the same issue with my 2004 Freelander and am in the process of ordering the part via parts gateway but wanted to make sure i was getting the right part.

got mine fixed. £150 for a inlet manifold from a breaker (good one). Local garage swapped it for £120. Total cost: £270. Fantastic engine sound and engine much stronger. Called land rover garage in Aylesbury for software upgrade. 20 minutes and four different people later, the service manager did not know about the V6 inlet issue (???) but was happy to ask for £130 for a software upgrade. 30 minutes while you are waiting sir. I told him it should be free according to land rover club and he kept telling me the car is out of warranty. Called Land rover customer service and got a very cold reception.

As the service manager did not know about the issue, I thought there was no point spending another £130 to upgrade the software.

BTW, while waiting between people, I had to listen to a advert about great finance on new LR... well, with that type of awful service... no thanks. Other car is xc90 and I have to say, phone reception is night and day with LR.

2 things.......

1) get a rover75 inlet manifold - cheaper, but the same thing.
2) yu should not be charged for landrover software upgrades. they are FOC, as are all recalls and similar.

1 - This is what I did.
2 - What do I say to dealer? They are trained Monkeys and just repeat that the car is not under warranty.

It's recall A151 your talking about. It only covers certain VIN number ranges. It's a software update to stop the values going too far and damaging the links. You get a rattle if it happens. Should have been done early on, as a free recall. Most dealers don't do recalls on older vehicles. If it was in for a service they would do it. Or perhaps charge for it.

when was that recall done? this car has LR service until 2005. Really annoyed the LR dealer did not do the upgrade.

Guys what exactly is this rattle? Because mine has a ticking sounds that is proportional to revs (especially audible when accelarating.) I replaced the intake manifold gasket today and it might be my imagination but it seems to have quietened down a little. Could it be to do with my manifold?

Will.

Are we talking about the vis motor software update?

I keep seeing this sw upgrade a151 for the vis system but how can it work? The vis motor has 2 states, fully open or fully closed both of which are controlled by limit switches!! The ecu looks at the switch state and drives the motors accordingly!!
