Hi All

So I currently have HB3 12v 60w headlamp bulbs (Main and Dipped combined I think) in my Freelander 2

Having had a RR previously with Xenons, I am struggling a little with the brightness of the headlamps and wondered if upgrading to Xenons is straight forward or whether it would require more modifications than simply replacing the bulb?

any help greatly appreciated - thanks - J

Fitting Xenon headlight units off a so equipped FL2 is possible. The CCF will need modification. You'll need to add the levelling sensors and headlight washers too.

CCF= Car Configuration File. Basically it's the set of instructions the Body Control Unit (BCU) uses to run all the electric items in the vehicle. Traditional relays aren't used in vehicles any more. So when you turn on the headlights. The switch tells the BCU that you want the lights on. There's a slight delay and then the BCU powers the lights using Mosfets (powerful transitors).
So if you wanted to fit the Xenon lights from a higher spec modal. You would need to tell the BCU that Xenons are fitted. If you don't, the Xenon lights might not work correctly, due to the different drive characteristics of the ballast needed for them.
Xenons, by law, also require anti dazzle systems to be added which is in the form of self levelling of the beam and a glass cleaning system too.
