I'm aiming to explore some of the trails/dirt roads in the S. Tyrol, Gran Paradiso and Dolomites region, does anyone have suggestions for passable routes, please?

Its a two week single-vehicle expedition, so I'm not aiming for difficult roads. I'm just looking for interesting places to photograph as part of a 'mountains' project. Timescale = mid June. Base area will be near Bolzano.

The 'wheels' will be a regular 300TDi Disco and a mountain bike, plus two old and tired legs ...

Suggestions gratefully received - thanks

Hi Alan
I am a 4x4 tour guide that once or twice a year does tours round the Dols. near Trento. More targeted at touring the "Sieben Geminde" between Roverereto and Feltra. This whole area was heavily fought over during the First world war.
A good base is the Camping Jolly at Levico Terme. Then from there work out up onto the plateau's around the area. I have to be careful how much info. I give out as my boss would not be too happy!

Many thanks Rich - One question: just how accessible is the area - eg are there plenty of tracks & trails and are they normally passable without risk? I know that in central Italy trails are easy and accessible but you get strange looks .....

Cheers, Alan

Hi again Alan
Most of the tracks are crushed limestone construction and wide enough for a Landy, no problem.
If you need more info contact me per mail.
