Tyres - Yes another tyre thread,lol

Evening All,
Getting a bit sick of looking at everything i want to drive through thinking if i will get through it or not.
Therefore i wanna get some tyres
I dont use my disco for long road journeys,
Simply use it to go to work in which is about 2 miles away from home,
then a bit of town driving during the week, then at the weekend ill take the mrs to work then pick her up (10 mins drive)
rest of the time im on dirt
i do about 140 miles a week including my offroading

My question is, Which tyres do i go for?

Been looking at the following

Insa turbo Special Track - Would love these but think i will kill them using them on the road too

Insa turbo Sahara - Would be interested in these if they would do alright on the road too ?

Lastly, The ones i think would be best all round
Insa Turbo Dakar - on the specs it gives you some text about being great if your either on road or offroad?

i know there a copy of the BFG MT, but i can get the Dakars for about £200 fitted

I have also thought about the All terrain style, but they dont look as beefy as the MTs, and i think id still be wondering if i will get through stuff with the ATs

The size i am looking for will be the 235 85 R16, want 85 to try and get my disco a bit higher in the air too, because i have been scraping the diffs already

Please could you lot share your views on this?

Please bare in mind too, if i do go on any motorways i rarely go above 50

The Dakars will be a good choice, just be aware of the wet road braking. Don't forget to alter your steering lock stops so the tyres dunt rub on radius arms on full lock and you have to remove a small section of the rear wing behind the wheel. 2 or 4 door?

its a 4 door, again the rear wing bit im not too sure about too?

When you say they are a "copy" of the BFG M/T , is that just the way the tread looks, or are the side walls also "beefed up" , I understand the BFG M/T have great sidewalls to resist most cuts in the side walls.

tyres may lock up the same as any with "knobbles" but more so with less rubber contact, when you turn to full lock with 235/85's they will catch on front lower radius arms, on the large swivels located at the end of the front axle you will see a bolt that has a lock nut this is adjusted to limit the amount of lock available and at the moment it will be set for std tyre set up (if vehicle has not had larger tyres fitted before). you might find that the lower edge of the rear 1/4 panel wheelarch panel catches the tyre on axle articulation and will need to be folded under more to clear, also at the rear of the arch catches the tyre tread when under axle articulation and needs to have a bit cut off.

the tyre is a remould so therefore has more rubber than a std tyre and it is marketed as a mud all purpose tyre, they do have a reinforced shoulder.

Afternoon all,

Does any one know the best places to get the BFG Mud terrains ?

paddocks dont have the Dakars in stock, but the man said i may only get around 10k from the remoulds, compared to 50ish with BFG`s

Dont know if thats 100% true, but i know insa turbo our out of stock on the Dakars too

So if i can find the BFG`s at a GOOD price, ill go for them

the bloke also said the 85 tyres wont go on my discovery because i do not have a lift kit, is this true?

Sorry to start going on again,
Ive managed to find a good deal on these tyres, or i think its a good deal
BFG MT 235 85 R16 £399 for 4,

But they also said they are not going to fit on my disco, even more so with it being a 5 door,

But on that tire fitting page it does not state anything about lift kit

All these shops are saying it will need to be lifted a minimum of 2" and i will have to cut the arches out

My problem is, i will be putting the new tyres onto my current wheels, so if they dont fit im stuffed

Im not really too sure what to do, and cant afford tyres and lift kit at the moment , just tyres

why not go for kumho's then, they are 2/3 of the price and just as good

All i can find on the net are generic ones, and looks are playing a big factor in it
Hence why i love the BFG`s, the bold white text does it

i know that might sound a bit stupid

How much are these kumho's too for 4 delivered?

Hiya Mikeysabes,

You can't just bolt on 235 x 85 R16's to a standard discovery. 235 x 85 are close to 750 size mabe a tad wider and I know these do not fit. Discos need alot of work to get 235 x 85 R16's to fit correctly without fowling the wheel arches causing body damage. I can post a pic tomorrow of a disco fitted with 750 R16's showing body modifications and lift. just pm me with your email address and I can send you the pics. Jai

Or do as I have done and not cut the body put pulled it out by 1 1/2inch at the bottom on both rear wings, also not mentioned above it that you will have to trim your front valance a little and pull the top of the wing above the wheel out about 3/4inch so it dont rub on full articulation

I'm currently running 265/75R16 BFG muds on my disco. There's no suspension lift. I just had to take a bit off the back of the rear archers and a bit of the front bumper end caps and it's all hunky dory.
