so my osf tyre has inside ware no tread left could the cause of this have been the faulty vcu ? other 3 are fine no knocks to suggest any suspension/steering damage etc

Doubtful! I'd have the four wheel alignment checked
Take a look at the track rod end on that side as well

it might have had the track rod end done at some point and not been adjusted. once the tyre has started to wear you will not stop it no matter what you do. hope this helps
