Tunnel + 2 foot flood = FUN

I'm just having a little poke at bonkas and you know that

Seriously think that flowing water in a tunnel is risky, fun sure but risky. And yes I'd agree it was well driven other than maybe tad slow but bow waves in a tunnel are unpredictable.

My concern isn't for the motor stalling etc so long as there was help nearby for recovery but rather for a rapid change in water flow/levels which can easily be caused by any number of things......a landslide behind or a bank washing though ahead which could lead to a real life threatening situation and emergancy service response.

We all take risks but a situation like the tunnel has too many unknown variables to risk for a laugh....for my tastes anyway.

how often have you changed a wheel using a jack without axle stands, theres more risk in that, but something we have all done at some time

I agree (apart from the bonkas bit :p) I drive for a living and see way too many people taking risks just on a daily drive to work, often fatal, but i know this road and its not the first time its flooded hence the marker on the entrance to the tunnel.
I didn't put anyone's life in danger apart from my own maybe, and was in a vehicle that was more than capable of driving deep water.

i want to find the thread where somone was debating driving through 5ft of water to get to a horse.....

because its late, nothing much else is happening and i fancy reading something that might make me chuckle

good vidio, lucky you had a camara! was good fun the other night on the way home, went home the back lanes behined horsham, down curves lane thursday night, and theres a stream that runs under a brigde, that must have been about 2.5 foot, and went through no sweat, all though ma feet, and ma legs got abit wet,but good fun though! shame i couldent film it,didnt have a camara :( ,but was dark aswell,so was abit unsure at first, and then some nutter, wid obviosly more money than sence,in a disco 4 just ploughed through it so i thought well if he can, ma old girl will! :D

Have you been over the bridge towards Henfield this week at high tide, been a few dead cars there.

Anyway, all good fun for me, been out in the puddles/rivers of roads this week a few times, no tunnels though. Even rescued a cat from a tree through the sunroof and a 4' 11" man in a 5' stream on a pony.

I left the smart car at home, it would float away as well, now that seemed sensible to me.

why do most of us have landrovers??
Almost everyone i know has one as a toy, for off roading or green laning. So a local area has flooded?? so he jumped in his toy and went for a drive, so what, did he do anyone any harm or damage? did he force his mate to go with him? I think not. Why when some one posts something on here does everyone jump on the bandwagon and slate em??
What is the point in prepairing a vehicle to go through water and then drive arround? Cant see what the problem is unless in reality some peeps havent got landy or they have but its the family motor and the misses wont let them out to play in it?
The first thing i do when areas around me flood or get snowed over is jump in the 90 and drive out looking for people who may be stranded or in trouble, how would i be able to help if i wasnt sure i could get to them?
FFS if it doesnt fit with you it doesnt mak it wrong.
+1. tho mines a disco, and gets used for everything. not just a toy. (thats the 109, and a different story completely)

this thread is also one of the reasons i choose what i post publicly.

Yep, i agree. I dont post a lot of stuff i do on here because of the anti fun police

Found a little puddle today - couldnt resist and went through it. went on for nearly a mile :5bleaving:

At the end of the day we all have machines capable of a slight bit of moisture, as long as your not endangering yourself or more importantly anyone around you it shouldnt matter. If you do endanger yourself you only have yourself to blame. I dont go through anything i cant get out and walk away because i wouldn't want the embarrassment of anyone with blue lights having to help me. They have better things to do.

As far as the video, i kept quiet last night but may aswell load the gun for somone. I think its no different to what anyone else would do. If you are on your way home from work, you have a vehicle with a wading depth of 50cm (guess) and the water is a foot deep then why shouldnt you go though it? We all have landrover because of what they are capable of. If you dont want to get them wet then maybe a kia would be better?

It's a bit different in a tunnel. You've got nowhere to go if it all goes pete tong. In the event of a flood surge the water will be funneled in much faster and the levels will rise much higher than it would on an open road. Also the vast majority of landslides occur near tunnels, If you watch the vid again check out the landslide a couple of hundred yards past the tunnel. it's partially blocked the road. Now imagine that coming down in front of the tunnel as the landy was coming out. Not a good scenario

We've all gone wading Well I have. just not in anywhare as stupid as a tunnel.

fair enough i cant argue with that. I got to be honest i never gave landslides a thought as its a bit flat around here...they dont slide all that far.

The water seems to be going a bit faster than i remember watching last night too....

This was my only concern with the vid. Flowing confined water is notoriously unpredictable and if a Landy floundered in that situation you'd be well past the point of being able to walk away.....queue blue lights.

And if he had come a cropper it would've been the bloke in the hi-viz at the entrance that would've been his best hope but instead he's just a sad **** to be laughed at that hasn't the sense to get out the way of the wave!

It's not the fun but the 'fook you' attitude that gets me

First things first......merry christmas all :)

I've come to the conclusion that i made a big mistake driving through the so called dangerous and volatile situation in the tunnel and should not have put myself in that position risking the need for the emergency services to have to come to my rescue because they are professionals and need all there resources, especially in situations like this........
