Trying to remove alternator - L series

Can anyone give me some advice on getting at the vacuum pump oil feed pipe from the engine block please? In the RAVE and Haynes manuals it simply says "remove oil feed pipe from the block". Great! How? I can see it; I can just about touch it with my fingertips; how on earth do I get a spanner at it to remove the pipe without seemingly having to dismantle half of the engine?

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

it says disconect it from the pump on the alternator not the engine

That seems even more difficult. There does not appear to be any way to get a spanner underneath the pump with enough room to move it, unless I am missing something obvious (which is quite possible)
