I need a new trolley jack as I'm going to be dropping the gearbox out of my Disco in the next few days and the one I've got is just too small.
I've only got about £75.00 to spend and the only ones locally for that price are Halfords ones, Advanced 2.25 Ton 4x4 Trolley Jack, or 2.5 Tonne Speedy Lift 4x4 Trolley Jack.
Has anyone got either of the above and are they any good?
Thanks
Rich

Had a Taskmaster 3 tonner for nearly 30 years, the dog's doodahs. never let me down yet !!!

Depending on your gearbox -

are there not dimensions for a gearbox cradle in front of the relevant overhaul manual

much safer - you can knock one up in wood so quick and light

The only real limitation with a trolley jack is that the maximum lift has to be quite high. Mine has a full height lift of 595mm which was just enough.

A second trolley jack is also handy for holding the gearbox while the adapter and main lift jack are fitted.

how does one go about getting a trade card?

I'm a london bus driver.
I walked into halfords in my uniform and told them I was re training to be a bus mechanic and that my company said I should get a trade card.
The chap behind the counter issued me one straight away!!!
Result.

You don't get a discount on everything, but the discount you get is well worth having.
