Hello gents;
there is something wrong in the t/box,when i shift the lever into low range it flashes for a couple of seconds then low is selected with the audible smooth clunck underneath,then when i put it in 4 or 3 or 2 or 1 whatever,i get the select neutral.when i put it in R there is no select neutral.
only in forward low gears it shows select neutral,then when i select it there is a hard clunck/tap from beneith and the high range engages while the lever is in the low range.
i have swapped the ecu still the same,replaced the xy pannel still the same,it is engaging in low and high,and low is only working on reverse.
what is left the motor?

Erm don't know alot about Rangies does it drive even though it shows "select neutral"?
Why would the ecu
or the "xy panel" ( I thought it was a switch?) make any difference? :confused:

Damn it,since o got this blood sucker p38 and nothing but bad wirings,the srs before,the fuse box,the becm,interior lights and the list goes on.now the t/box wirings,onother whole day at the garage to trace a fooked wire,there goes the console again in and out hundred times.

box is mechanical with no electric inputs at all gear change is mechanical in that motor turns worm shaft in/out, motor can fail in two ways ,faulty motor wont turn,or indicator part wont let ecu know where motor is ie high , neutral,low ,i would be looking into what influencies when high/low selection can take place ie xyz ,gearbox ecu ,t/box ecu

That's British quality for you, bet your Lada Niva is more reliable.
The P38 is not so much a car as a learning curve and a money pit:rolleyes::eek::rolleyes::eek:

:clap2::clap2: Good man jorjio....Nice to see someone posting fixes that will be stored in the database which not many people can be bothered to search. They would rather take the easy way out and put a new post up 'cos it's easier !!!
Rant over.....:frusty:

Hi my friend
ended up removing the entire console though,no way this wire can be reached and solded by removing only the xyz switch,after solding it and testing it several time and puting everything up together,the fooker snaped again,so re did the entire job again with extra finesse on the solding and keeping both of the wires flexible enough to move with the lever without braking.
