Hi,

I have just bought some silly big wheels and need to lower my gear ratio. I have a Disco 1:1.222 ratio transfer box in good working order which i fitted last year.

Does anyone with a defender standard box want to do a swap? I am in Surrey, near Leatherhead. Please dont offer me a shagged transfer box! I might also do all the swapping and fitting to sweeten the deal abit if required!

You know it makes sence! :D Rich.

Be carful my 90 with 37 inch lost all driveability in Low box which was a fundamental no no for me so I changed me diffs and geting a higher transfer box in High range only now my low range is loooovley even for rockcrawling coming down chaplegate (which is much like a road I wish to travel in th enear future on an expo) was absolutly awful and the landy was only half loaded up. now Low box is sweet high is far too low TBH but the higher box and mabe an overdrive will sort that my main thing was low box. Try it you may be happy with 35's I Dunno

I found my 1:1.222 ratio T-box with standard diffs and 265/75 16s to be absalutly spot on. Very rarly did i wish i had a lower gear off road, i know this is higher than most people like the ratio, my engine does pull well too though.

I calculated the 35s with 1:1.410 to be about 3% lower ratio than befor, which is about what it feels. I thought that would be good for heavy loads, but driving it unleadened it feels too low ratio.

I was driving with the 35s and a 1:1.222 box for a week or so, and whilst not ideal, unloaded it was usable. I think i will get used to the set up i have on it now though.

Low range the ratios are all the same and tyre size you really feel th edifference Well I did.

Ah thats interesting, I just rolled in in the drive in low range and I was sure it was lower than the 1.222 box. Just my imagenation then.

I like the 1.410 with 35s on the road, just gave it a good 30 mile run. The R380 is much quieter than my old LT77, and its got enough pull to spare for load.
