When my transmission went bang in 2013, LR here didn't even have a VCU. When a tyre shop bust my locking nut 'key' a year or 2 later, the LR dealer didn't have masters - they couldn't even be bothered to keep a box of locking nut keys. I think they were quite embarrassed about it because they managed to get them off and didn't charge me (I replaced with standard nuts).
The problem as well is choice - when my transmission went bang - LR could get me the parts (IRD & VCU) but it was going to cost $7,500 (£3,750). I just checked on LRdirect for the prices of these and they are $5,886 and $1,369 - so the NZ price is reasonably comparable to the $7,225. However, who pays those prices? LRDirect do an OEM IRD for $1,637 (£800 bloody good price actually!!!) and GKN VCU for $548 - so $2,185 - much nearer to what people really pay. However, getting those shipped faster than the 6 weeks by ship is colossal.
Are you on the main Kiwi Freelander gorup?

There's not a lot of activity on there really - mainly me
The most remote place I've seen a Freelander is here...
