Hi, wonder if anyone can help with a problem I am having fitting a britpart trackrod end(left). I counted twenty one turns off on the old one but the britpart one will only go on twenty turns. There is still one turn to go to the mark off the old one. If I leave at 20 there is very little play to adjust when I get the tracking done. Any ideas? I am also replacing the other side today.
Many thanks Matt.

Counting the turns is a waste of time myth perpetuated by God-knows who. The problem is that various brands of parts have different casting lengths. For best results at home you need to make a mark on the track rod beyond the threads and accurately measure from that mark to the base of the track rod end taper when it is completely vertical BEFORE you remove it. Then when you put the new one on you screw it on how ever many turns is required to achieve this same length.

the measurement must be from a fixed point on the track rod to a point that is identical on both old and new parts. The end of the casting, the base of the boot, the bolt holes etc all vary too much between brands and when it comes to wheel alignment just a millimeter or two is the difference between running right and wearing your tyres out quickly.

You will need to go to a garage and get the wheel alignment done. No other choice now.

Hi dave , thanks for the quick reply. Yes, by mark i mean the measurements to the scrub lines i did. I am at 115mm and need to be 112mm but I am at the end of the tre casting. Can i wind the rod in to give me the 112mm and a turn left on the the for when it goes in for tracking?
