Evnin , I've been looking at tow bar mount cycle racks , seen one on eBay which seems good value but it claims not to work with rear mounted spare wheels. I think it's due to sticking straight up from the ball. However, Looking at my tow bar, it sits out further than spare wheel so thinking I could get away with it. Just wondered if Anyone has one and can confirm whether it will or won't fit.

Could put the spare in the boot when you use the bike rack, not sure if there would be room with wheel on.

What kind of bike you got?

Mine goe's up and out from the ball on the tow bar, I put a straps around it through the spare wheel holder because I was getting paranoid. Seemed to keep the bikes on, but looked really bad.

Why not the sort that mounts TO the spare wheel. They are great and can carry 4 bikes. I have one going spare, hint, hint, for a TDI. I have a TD5 now it won't fit.

I've got a Thule carrier (model 9403 I think) for mine which aren't the cheapest but easily carries 3 bikes without the spare wheel getting in the way. Only takes around 30 seconds to add/remove as well and fits perfectly in the Disco boot as I always remove it along with the removable tow hitch in case someone takes a fancy to them when I'm moving under pedal power.

The model I have also tilts down so I can get the boot door partially open if I need to.

I've got one :) had it since my RR days, then fitted it to the disco but never used it,so it's been hanging up in the shed getting rusty for the last 16 years.

And it only takes 5 seconds to lock into is tow bar mount :D

Cheers for the replies guys. Still not sure . I'm.heading away with kids next week for Easter hols so wanted a good ( but cheep) one for then. Not sure about the spare wheel one as the rear door already seems over stretched with just the spare wheel on never mind 3 or 4 bikes. Although like the idea of being able to open up the boot if needed. Bit think the tow ball one would be fairly secure. One on eBay for 27 with clips and free delivery :-D

I've got one that the boss fits behind the spare wheel. Main body padlocked to the boss and removed easily. You are welcome to borrow it for the holidays to try I out. I want it back mind:)

Cheers Bigeee ,

I'm all sorted I got one and a light board all for t he princely some of £30 knocked down from £45

I'll up load if I can get this dman phone to work.

But it has answered my original question yes they do fit , it comes straight up off the tow ball and dosen't need to bend round the spare wheel. And is really secure.
