Can anyone she'd some light, I know little to zero about engines and the garage is shut.

Anyhoo, a while back I had an interesting combination of intermittent three amigos, brake light, handbrake light and engine light. Garage said broken wire to abs sensor and fixed it.

It's been happening again the last two weeks, but I didn't worry and booked it into the garage for next week. Then this afternoon I've had the amigos and the engine light, but every time I put my foot a little further down an engine light with a ! came on, the car lost power and I had to crawl up hills at seven miles an hour and could not get over 30 all the way home.

Worried it's going to blow up or something, can I still drive it? It's an 04 diesel freelander.

Thanks for reading...

Go to the intro section and introduce yourself first. Then use the search field. This subject has been covered a thousand times, at least.

I found the three amigos through searching, but not the power thing, sorry. I just want to know if I can carry on driving it another four days until it goes to the garage , or if it's going to give up the ghost and leave me stranded or blow up or if I'm causing lots of damage. I'm not at all worried about the amigos, it's the new '!' engine light that's got me worried.

Thanks for replying, we had a white English bull terrier when I was a kid, she was so sweet, although my mum used to get fed up with my navy school uniform being constantly covered in white hairs. Sorry if I've caused offence, I've not used a forum before.

If you list your location in your profile there might be a member near you with there own diagnostic machine and cand get you the codes if any

Hi Matt, I did take it to the main dealer last time but they said it wouldn't talk to their computer, that was a big waste of a morning. Then the lights went off anyway, came back on a few weeks later and the local garage said abs wire and fixed it.

Anything more than the slightest pressure brings the ! light on and the power goes, it's nearly undriveable. You can't get up a hilI at over ten miles an hour. I am starting to have some very negative feelings towards that car!

would be looking at the lp fuel pump in the rear wheel arch.

this is probably unrelated to the 3 amigos.

mine did exactly the same when the fuel pump failed. replace it, but make sure you use a genuine part, they may be more expensive, but they outlast the pattern parts by a long way. General consensus is OEM is the only way to fly with this part.

Thank you. I seem to remember it had a new fuel pump seven years ago, so maybe it's ready for a new one. Last time it just suddenly broke down, so maybe I should always take my mobile until I can sort a new one out! I thought it was an amigos issue, but this exclamation engine light never joined in last time, it's a new one on me!

New fuel pump ordered tomorrow then, sorted thanks!

Not ordered anything yet, been looking at prices, is OEM as good as landlover branded?

It was 2008/9 when it last had a pump so 4/5 years ago, which makes sense as it's an 04 so maybe that's how long they last?

What is limp mode, I'd better go do another search. Sorry for all the numpty questions and thank you all for replying.

Looked up limp mode and that's what it's doing. Would an on-its-way-out fuel pump make it limp?

You guys are getting very technical, I have no clue what breathers or pressure switch looms are. :scratching_chin:

It's behaving a bit better today according to hubby (who also knows nothing about cars). The ! light only flashed on a time or two whereas yesterday it was on permanently.

How much do you charge Matt, maybe we could limp over to yours!? The garage is only little and doesn't have a reader (although when I went to one who did the pigging car wouldn't tell it anything).

Always the same case it's why I ended up with my own but you have to buy adapters for the td4 and as I don't have a td4 I don't have them but we can see what it does say and go from there where in ****borough are you located

Inbox me if needs be will see what we can do

Update, on the way to Matt1295 who had very kindly offered to put it on his code reader, I stopped to pick my son up from school and it refused to start again.

Green flag rolled up, said fuel pump after hitting it with a hammer and spraying canned fuel down the engine, and towed it away.

The green flag guy said it had two pumps, one of which is in the engine and costs 1k to replace, is this true, I have seen conflicting statements on the net.

Best price I've found for OEM part is £128 from rts.Unless anyone knows anywhere cheaper?

Thanks everyone, you are such a lovely helpful bunch on here, and special thanks to Matt1295.
