Gent,
The time has come to upgrade Ive been very happy with my TD4 but its time for a change, I'm looking at the Freelander 2. Do any of you learned gentlemen have any advice on what I should look out for any common problems with this model ?
regards
Neil

Many people seem to point FL2 people at the Freel2.com forum. Can't say I've looked, as only just bought my 1st FL1. Can't cope with anything else at the moment. :lol:

I had a new 08MY GS as a company car and covered 90k miles over the next 3 yrs and had very few problems. (Haldex, wheel bearings, but not much else)
Whereas my son has an 07 XS with the HST kit at the mo (75k miles) and has had all sorts go wrong;
Wheel bearings, complete new clutch assy, rear diff replaced, handbrake failure and now it has an intermittent starting problem which is probably the starter motor.

Like any Freelander – Luck of the draw I guess but I am just as happy with my current TD4?

I used to use Freel2.com - Index which is a bit more focused on the FL2 but let us know what you decided to do, as this forum could do with more info on the FL2.

I think early FL2's had problems as mentioned above but the later ones are much betterer as they sorted out most of the issues. Parts peeps at the local main dealer say the FL2 is the most reliable vehicle LR currently sell, and has been for several years. They're basing this on parts ordered through them for repair by the public and their garage.

Give it a good going over and listen out for strange noises. When I went to look at my mine I could here a bearing whine, the salesman couldn't hear it, but they checked it out any way. It turned out to the diff bearing and the dealer sorted it out.

Make sure everything works as there is a lot of electrics that could wrong.

It is a absolutely cracking vehicle, so different to the FL1.

I work at an independent land rover garage and its a similar story, the f2 is definately the most reliable, most we see just for services, the problems we have seen however are the handbrake linkages seize up, using them often and lubricating them thought the inspection hole at services cures that. The rear diffs can give bother and can be costly to fix so stay clear of anything with a bearing noise from the back end. Poor running can be caused by blocked fuel filters, apart from that they are extremely reliable for a land rover :D
