Thermal insulation

Good Morning All,

I need to replace the foil mat insulation on the firewall and also the floor above the cats.

Had a quick search here and on the other place, but nothing obvious.

Any recommendations, please?

I thought I could just replace the material with some generic stuff .... it is intact but the foils has almost gone.

Might be slightly less efficient but not enough to worry. If mine was ever silvered there's no trace now. Plenty of air can still circulate around under there so it will help protect the bottom of the car.

Glue some baco foil on it if you are worried

Can you use the reflective radiator foil that you stick behind domestic rads...or would that melt.. ??

I got some self adhesive foil for the E type from SNG Barratt or Martin Robey, cannot remember which. I will try to dig out the invoice

A domestic radiator and a catalytic converter are slightly different levels of heat. Do that and it maybe a good idea to buy a fire extinguisher.

Well get yourself a blow lamp and a piece glittery Mylar, which is what i think the radiator reflector will be and a piece of aluminium foil, Turkey foil will do as it's near crimbo. Pass the lit blowlamp over them both and observe what happens to the foil and what happens to the Mylar. Then draw your own conclusions.

You were correct...radiator reflector burst into flames and is now stuck all over the garage floor and the sole of my boot.
Smelled nice though.
