My tensioner was not squealing but it was knocking quite loudly as it moved up and down on the belt. the bearing felt a bit loose so I changed it but it was still making the same noise so I tried the penny trick, now the tensioner is dead quiet and it doesnt seem to move up and down so much. So job done BUT why did I need to do it in the first place? I am guessing that putting the penny in the nine oclock position alters the angle of the roller on the belt But if I have a perfectly functioning tensioner why did I need to do that and what was making the knocking in the first place?
Just curious!!
