Afternoon.
First time in this section of the forum as I used to hang out in the P38 and Freelander sections, but as the ball and chain has just bought a 90 it looks like i'll be in here now.

So first question of he day is, apart from contacting the DVLA etc and requesting historical information, are there any telltale signs that this was ex-mil?

Its a 90, 1989 hard back. It looks to be originally blue, there is a 24v warning light fitted to the instrument cluster although pretty I haven't seen a 2nd battery. It has a NATO hitch fitted and a toggle switch on the steering column which allows the engine to continue running after the keys have been removed. The Father in-law says there is a baked bean sized canister above the rear axle with a wire coming out of it leading to nothing (but as it looks grim outside I'm not willing to check this information)

If its blue would that be RAF? or just a good respray after it was demobbed? Would there be any drilled holes for equipment that I could look for anywhere that aren't standard, ie radio mountings?

Thanks in advance

UC

Pictures of the dash/front would help.

Otherwise holes in the top wings would be a good indicator,

Nato tow hitch could be there due to the previous owner having a sanky trailer,

I imagine most of them will just have a standard dash fitted with all the warning lights, with some not wired up. I'm 90% sure mine has a 24v light on the dash - I'd look, but it's ****ing it down! Tomorrow when I have to use it for work I'll get back to you. :)

Has it got screw on indicator and side light covers (as opposed to covers held on by two screws) and a large lighting switch in the centre of the dash?

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Its kept at here parents so I dont have access until were there again on tuesday.

I'm pretty sure they are held with screws. Do mil spec LR's have quick release screw off lenses?

Box on the rear axel possibly a convoy light.

I'll try to find out what the father in law was looking at.

I've only ever driven one similar to this age and I don't recall there being a light that was soooo visible when not illuminated. maybe they changed the instrument cluster between then and the 94-95 reg one I used to drive. Its the bottom most right hand light

Judging by the condition of this 90 I expect he owned a SKANKY trailer... this has had such a ****e respray. Sorry if somebody recognises the old girl when I put some pictures up but its had a glass only masking primer respray of grey, which covered everything bar the glass and lights... i mean window rubbers and everything... then it was painted gloss black with a brush... which came off with a jetwasher... so currently its looking at a full strip and well, either new panel's and a spray, or a shed load of filling and panel beating, followed by a spray unfortunately :(

No holes in the top of the wings, I'm guessing for communications.. The dash is pretty worn but don't show anything different, with the exception of the engine kill switch that is the only way in stopping the engine

My 92 200tdi has a very visible 24v light on the dash. Not wired in and it's always been a civvy vehicle. I think it's just there as standard, and pointless in a 200tdi as they couldn't be wired for 24v hence why the MOD never used them!

Cool beans. I think that answers that then. One question.. Is there a standard position for the temp gauge? Usually upright? After 30 mins ticking over she is just in the white. Top hose it hot so I'm guessing the stat is stuck
