Dear all, if I can pick your expert brains...

I had a ABS Sensor fault.. Hawkeye detected it as an intermittent read on the ABS sensor and stated the problem was a broken wire in the right ABS sensor. So, I changed it.. The whole sensor and wire loom. But, 2 days later, I put my foot on the brake and brake hard because of the usual sunday driver and discover that the 3 amigos come on again... I check the system with Hawkeye and it states that it is the same fault. Intermittent read on the right ABS sensor, broken right hand wire.

If you clear the faults, it reads clear and then runs fine until you brake hard, then it comes on again..

If I have changed the harness, I am pretty stumped for ideas?? I don't want to go changing parts willy nilly, but I really need to get the bottom of this... Your thoughts would be appreciated..

My guess would be a worn hub bearing on that side. If you buy a new hub they usually come with a new sensor.

Jack up the car to get the wheel off the ground and have a fiddle to see if there is ANY play, any at all. If there is, that's likely to be your problem.

Yup, I did that...When I replaced the sensor, I checked the bearing.. no free play at all, but ironically, there did seem to alot of crap in the ABS sensor hole, would this affect it?? The Hubs seem to be really expensive, can you just change the hub bearings and clear out the internals without replacing the hub???

No u cant ... disconnect the sensor and check it's resistance with ohm-meter, it must be between 900-1100 ohm.... if it is u have to bite the bullet and buy a new hub ... unless the unlikely case that u have a problem with the other part of wiring untill the ECU.

Muck in the ABS sensor hole would definitely have an effect on the sensors ability to read the 'ring'.

Clean out the hole replace the sensor and gently tap it hole BEFORE bolting it down.

Hmm, Ok...

I will try the Ohm reading tomorrow and update the thread.. What points would you read off and do I need the vehicle running??

Secondly... The ABS sensor hole, If I loosen the hub bolts, can I access the inside by the exciter ring or is this a sealed unit??

Thanks for the help..

If it is a sealed unit, whats the best bet for getting the crap out from inside r is that a no hope?? Secondly? What is the chance that it is a the ABS ECU or ABS module??
