Temperature/Fan

2001 2.5 diesel which is fairly new to me.Temperature gauge stays at 1st white line just out of the blue and stays there on a long run.Also the viscous fan is working straight from starting, is this the norm?
Limited knowledge so any advice gratefully received.

You will get differing opinions on this but in MY opinion yes, its normal for the temp gauge to fluctuate, especially at colder times of the year like we are having now.

As long as the fan isn't roaring away constantly as you drive you should be fine. Does the temp ever come up more towards the centre when climbing a hill or anything??

Temp gauge goes up slightly in traffic but has never reached halfway. Heater temp seems on the ball to me with nice constant air flow at 21 degs if required and fairly quick too. Has a roar from the fan when initially started but then difficult to tell when driving with it being the diesel lump. When engine is off the fan can be turned by hand with slight resistance. Maybe I'm over analysing and everything is ok but just being cautious as it is my first RR and want it all 100%.

All sounds normal to me - wait until the summer when its warmer, you will probably find when sitting in traffic that the temp gauge will move nearer the centre if not sit bang on 12.

The initial roar from the fan at startup is also normal - you would know if the fan was fully locked on and stuck that way, you would sound like a giant street cleaner going along the road.

Fan being able to be turned when the engine is off is normal - you should feel more resistance though when the vehicle has been sat overnight and is cold or when the weather is warm and the engine is hot.

You aren't over analysing - if you don't know, ask, you won't find out otherwise
