Hopefully in the not too distant future I am looking to purchase a Range Rover 3 - 5 yrs old.

I would only use the car occasionally during the week as I drive a company van and have another car. The main use for the car will be for towing our touring caravan, a nice big 26ft 1800kg twin axle monster.:D

I have had a few classic range rovers and currently pull the caravan with a chipped 300tdi discovery ES auto .

What would you guys in the know recommend for my needs the TD6 or the 4.4 ??

All answers appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Hi

Personally I would go for the TD6 as I couldn't afford to stop every 10 miles to fill up with petrol. However the Diesel have better torque and if you get the ECU re-mapped then you will get even better torque in the lower gears and it gives you a better MPG.

If you can afford the fuel and the depreciation go for the 4,4 - if you care about MPG and retaining some value in the vehicle (as much as is possible with a RR!) go for the TD6. It's as simple as that!

1800Kg is nothing for a LR of any variety, even the Freelander could cope with that.

Many thanks both - Now saving the 'green' for a TD6, maybe a little extra for the ECU re-map.

I've had the chip upgrade on my Discovery and have definately noticed the difference when towing including an increase in mpg.

Thanks again
