I’ve a 2003 Defender 110 SW with 65,000 mile, I’ve bypassed the mid box, back box and cat from the exhaust, making it a home-make straight thru system, I’ve fitted a home-made egr by-pass, silicone hoses, and an itg air filter, and I’m running 285/75 16 BFG muds and was getting about 27 mpg.

Now for the question, I’ve fitted an oversized intercooler from Brunel Performance at billing. Before fitting the tempeture gauge would sit at exactly half way or at 90 degrees from the horizontal, since fitting the new intercooler its running cooler with the gauge sitting between 80 and 85 degrees from the horizontal.

Also don’t seem to be getting the same mpg I used to either, now there was a new rad and thermostat fitted about 10,000 mile ago, and the novelty of the extra power has worn off, but I thought that the larger intercooler would improve power and economy, im now struggleing to hit 25mpg.

Anyone any thoughts on this? Is the engine not reaching its optimum working tempeture? or is there another problem looming?
