Hi all and firstly I have to thanks all who post on here as you have saved my bacon on several occasions!!
Now the bad bit I just the other month bought a lovely TD5 to replace my old 300 as she aint going to make another birthday.
I had covered less than 600 miles when the oil light flashed a couple of times then stayed on I was on a bad bit of road and had to go a little further to pull over safely checked the oil and it was fine got it trailered home and it wouldn't turn over well so I looked on here and yep oil pump bolt out hole in sump engine knackered :frusty::mil13::mad2:

Its a 01 build with 10p engine and I have found a 15p low miles (so im told) right on the doorstep I have nanocom so I can code injectors
I was thinking might as well to injector seals/ harness while in getting the codes.
Will renew the pump bolt and sump gasket not going through this again!
I was going to do timing chain cos im in there already and pop a new clutch on. Is there anything else worth doing while the lump is out?
I often cover up to 3000 miles a month with trailer so it needs to be right.

Over to you!

Are you getting the ECU with the 15P engine? 15P engine needs a different base map than 10P, and most of the 10P vehicles have an MSB type ecu that can't be flash programmed...

Better check, you need an NNN type ecu and the appropriate base file for the 15P to be loaded.

No ecu available will check what I have in mine but like you say probably an MSB type never thought about ecu being wrong I haven't bought engine yet mmmmm thats a good point!
Thanks Bennehboy

Just checked and its an MSB 101330 what type of NNN will be required and is there any way of knowing if it will be the correct base file for the engine?

Only way I know to really be sure what base map is loaded is to hook it up to nanocom, dump out the map and compare it against the correct base map in a hex editor. You can just load the full correct base map though (they are available online) - need to make sure the battery is strong whilst doing the flash, I usually jump from another vehicle just to be sure.

Think there's an option in nano to check which map code is loaded too... (problem with this is if someone has tweaked the fuelling maps you won't know)

I _think_ Gary at alive tuning will part ex an MSB one and send you an NNN with the right map - can also get a stage 1 tune done whilst you're at it :D

That sounds like a good idea I will phone them in the morning to discuss :clap2:
Yes it is possible to download the correct map as the nanocom has a may wizard to do this but I am new to using it I only got it to clear/ diagnose fault codes my mums td5 and thought now I have one it would be a good investment!
Will there be anything else that will need changed to adapt for new engine?
What are the things to look for with these engines if the engine is not in the vehicle to run and check?

Forgot to mention....

10p car probably has a 2 track accelerator, the 15p ECU will want a 3 track, it'll also want the 4 wire AAP sensor... You can run with the 10p 3 wire but it will guzzle more diesel than it should. Sensor can be retrofitted in, best to snag the airbox complete from the 15P donor and you have to then run a wire to the ECU plug...

Basically, try get a 10P engine :D

15p engine will run just fine on an earlier 10p ECU. I know that for a fact because thats what mine runs on with no issues. You can program the injectors if you have a Nanocom or Hawkeye but even that is not required to get the engine to run.

There are a few coolant plumbing changes to make but other than that the later engine will drop straight in.

You can not use 10p injectors in a 15p engine but you can the other way round.

Always locktight the oil pump sprocket bolt even on later engines.

Non flashable ECU worked first time. Did not even consider it would be a problem if I'm honest. I have no idea without looking which type it is/was.

Since then I have had Gary at Alive tuning fit an EPROM socket to my early ECU to allow me to play with the mapping if I so choose.

They work, but the idle codes for 15p injectors can't be set in the MSB ecu so it's not the best it could be.

Gary knows his onions.

Hi again a quick update. I managed to find a 10p from hills salvage it will be here soon they came highly recommended from the local breakers. I couldn't source an NNN ecu within my budget and Gary at alive hasn't got a stock of them so I decided to stick to standard for the moment just to get it running and I can worry about mapping at a later date.
Thanks Bennehboy and Shifty1962, without your replies, I would have ended up with an engine that wasn't at 100%

Hi,

According to Turner engineering the older 10p injectors will work fine with a 15p head, do you have any more info as to why they wont work (or fit)? I need to be sure of this before I invest in a 15p head...

Cheers!
