Hi folks, my 1999 TD5 ES was a perfect starter and runner but she has been laid up for a couple of months. I have fitted a new battery and tried her today but no joy - nothing at all!

I can hear the fuel pump working but the engine is not firing and there is a bleeping noise as I am turning the engine over

The interior has also been letting water in as mould has started to grow inside - could this have affected any electronics connected with starting the engine?

As always, any suggestions welcome :)

Thanks,Will.

First off check your inertia switch (fuel cut off switch) in the engine bay.

Press the top and see if it goes click.

Have you primed the fuel system before trying to start it?

Turn the ignition on and wait for the fuel pump to stop. When it stops, press the accelerator pedal 5 times in quick succession. The fuel pump should start up and run for a couple of minutes. Do THis two or three times. Afterwards, press the accelerator peddle to the floor and then crank the engine. Keep the throttle held down all the time. If the engine hasn't started after 10 seconds the ecu then throws loads of extra fuel in to purge the injectors. If after 30 seconds it hasn't started, then stop cranking and allow the starter motor to cool down before repeating. If during the above procedure you see no white smoke from the exhaust then that indicates that there is no fuel getting through.
