On my Disco 11 TD5 GS automatic it has a mode button at the back of the gear selector, mine does not work when pressed to change to sport or manual. Is this a standard fitting that should work or an optional extra but the buttons still there anyway, the oweners manual does not list it as 'if fitted'. This is my first Disco automatic and on a learning curve...

If I understand you correctly you are talking about the sports mode button.

When pressed what this SHOULD do is to change the speeds at which the gearbox changes gear, to make it feel more lively.

If you drive in a sedate manner the alteration that this maode makes might not be apparent.

It would appear then that this is not working, when pressed no light comes on the panel and there is no difference in the power:gear range. Would we need to assume that this is not working, if so do any of you kind people know where the fault may rest...

Would be interested to hear any replies also as I am in the same situation, DII with auto but no change on dash when button pressed. However, my DII started life as a manual and was changed over to auto. I have no problems with it though, except that noted above and the fact that the digital display mileometer does not indicate P / R / D etc for the auto.

Have you ever moved the transfer case lever? If not, try moving that forwards and then back to high (follow the instructions in your user manual) and that may work.

I have tried moving the low/high selector as descibed above, but this had no affect.

As the disco is under 6 month warrenttee it went back for them to sort it out. Called the guy today and he told me that it 'never worked'. Should the dealer have made that clear when I brought it? I need this feature for towing.

He did agree to get his garage to check it, obviously a fault somewhere, any ideas where it may lay?

Pressing the mode button does not select Sport or Manual mode, as I would expect it to.

why would it matter that it "never worked" it's a fault, you got a warranty and you want it sorting. get back down there and bollock um.

OK, what the garage meant was the light on the display never worked to show S or M when selected.

As it turns out the S and M (sounds weird) does light up but is very dim to see in good light.

So the sport mode works, but how to make the display lamp brighter?
