Morning all,
Sorting out an MOT fail leaking steering pump I have noticed that the FPR is leaking again. This will be my third in 105K miles, They are quite expensive and I'm quite tight. Is this the sort of lifespan for this component that I should expect? How long have you had out of yours?
Cheers,
Mike.

Saw those kits,,, having taken apart one of my old ones I can't see how you can access
the worn parts without machining it open (which I did). Anyone had success with them?

I used one of the eBay ones from Spain comes with seals. Been on over a year now and still OK you need some good circlip pliers to get the regulator out of the housing, but quite honestly I don't see why they sell the housing with the oem ones it's just an alloy casting which does not wear or deteriorate. big difference in prices on the oem unit and the repair kit.
Strange yours fails so often is it leaking from the joint face between the regulator and the head or is it the pipe connections into the regulator casing?

I'll give it a proper clean up and see if I can see where its leaking from,
cheers,
Mike.

Might be worth checking the face of the head where it seals, but take care not to get any muck into the fuel system, I give mine at least 3 purge cycles after I have opened it.
The tiny o rings on the ends of the hose fittings were a bit raggy on mine and one started to leak, maybe try a seal kit before you jump in and spend on a new one the kits are quite cheap.

Probably worth replacing your injector washers and seals, the theory is that the FPR is the first line of failure when combustion gas gets past the injector washers....

Interesting point, hadn't really considered that. Although I did do the injector seals and washers about 20k ago when it was smoking at idle...
