Having a fuel problem with my TD5. First thing in the morning you have to wait about 30 sec's to 1 min with the ingnition on before it will start, if you turned the key straight away it would just churn over and not start. once running it stops and starts ok unless its left for over an hour, then the same problem happens.

The last couple of days if I've been driving for about 20 mins, stop it and try and start again I have the same problem, I have to let the fuel pump pump for about 2 mins the floor the accelerator and turn the key, it then starts after spluttering for about 10 secs.

I have changed the fuel pump/sender unit, that made a slight difference, also changed the fuel filter at the same time. I have also ran it with out the fuel cap on but that made no difference(thought it could be a vaccum being created)

Any suggestion of where to look next?

Is the fuel pump noisey to begin with and then quietens down? Sounds like air in the fuel. Check your oil for signs of diesel in it. leaking injector washers will allow diesel to seep into the sump.

it is noisey to start with then quietens down. No diesel in oil. I thought it was air in the system, but the doing it straight after stopping it is the part thats puzzleing me.

Quick update.

It turned out to be the injector seals in the end. Replaced at a good price by DLS Wirksworth.
