Well its finally happened.
Its fair to say ive had the morning spigot bush moaning going on for zome time altho it never actually affected the drive of the disco. This morning however was a different story. The usual moaning followed by a bit of juddering and clutch slipping which settled down after a minute or two but the dark clouds Re definetely gathering.
Ive been looking tnrough the RAVE altho oddly my version seems to focus a lot on V8s and im sure there are sections missing, however a lot of stuff looks the same so I read it anyway and ive had a look at other posts on here. Im off out the country for 8 weeks earning a crust soon so nothings going to be happening for now but I wanted to consider options for when I take my next break. To do myself or take to a friendly garage?
I have a decent sized garage at home so I can work indoors and have access to another car so downtime no problem. My main concern is such things like the weight of the gearbox.....does it need two fellas? How much clearance is really needed, will standard axle stands suffice or big ramps better? How long has it taken thse who have diy-ed it? Any recommended parts suppliers?
I also would like.....and possibly prefer to entertain the idea of taking the work to a good reliable garage. Can anyone recommened a place in or close to ayrshire? I would actually be happy to travel 2 or 3 hours to get to a good place providing the work was done that day and I could drive home again, altho I know this could be a gamble and I could be stranded.
Budget.....I dont want to be ripped off nor do I want the job screwed up, I know some folks have given a figure of 1000 and other say less tha 400, altho I do expect to be replacing the dual mass flywheel.

get a valeo kit with flywheel, find a helpfull MAN(i mean with b*lls;)) and if you are another bad a**s with some muscles and enough brain to handle some spanners you can do it together near a few pints of beer ...tall axle stands or a canal would help much... i saw my young mechanics in action and they did it in 5 hours being half drunk:D ... but i have a canal in the garage

Valeo are oe for Landrover so are your best bet.
Whatever you do, DO NOT get a solid flywheel conversion, unless you want to destroy your gearbox/engine

Thanks....confidence building, ive seen a few valeo kits for sale at good prices so good to see a recommendation. Other thing I saw In rave was some support arrangement for geatbox....special kit obviously but I assume a jack and possibly some wooden blocks could do the same...ish sort of job.:)

Thanks for advice, I dont think id have went for any conversion, I did notice the heavy duty kits and my clutch does take a hammering soemtimes when retrieveing boat and trailer but I always prefer to stick to original where possible......its done its job well without any mods or conversions.
