When i got my td4 in 2009 road tax for a year was £215 , 2010 was £245 , 2011 was £260 , 2012 has gone up again to £270  my insurance was £50 more , last renewal , and to cap it all , the cost of diesel , i know we are all in the same boat (or freelander !) will it ever end , we are being well shafted by this government :mad::mad:

I got my freeby in 09, the tax has jumped up as you have said. a tank of fuel has jumped from £56 to nearly £90.

However, it's the price we pay for Labour blowing the whole lot and over spending by huge margins. The partys over for those who got something from it, the time to pay the bill is here. If Labour had kept control of public spending then we wouldnt be in this mess.

What year was your Td4 registered? Me thinks the later ones are taxed higher. Just paid £220 in Feb for my v6.

Politics aside , :) who ever,s in , public money gets wasted , look at M Ps expences etc , I am a lower end worker , some people on benefit get more than me , my point is i do my bit , and it is a struggle to run my pride and joy the way things are going , i am sure that i am not alone in this :)

Hippo, mine is a 04 Td4.

Bet you still get paid more than me, lol. I'm also going to be a full time student again come September and will be using the car even more than currently to get to college and back. Haha,

Expenses are small change compaired to the huge mess the nhs and benefits system is.
I'm a carer and 24, the young adult I look after has a sister my age, she's got 2 kids and has never worked a day in her life. She gets more in benefits and has a council house than I do, I'm still stuck at home. I have 3 jobs, whos the bigger mug? Her or me? Lol.

Well you could shack up with her ;)

I would rather insert a mig welder down my japs eye than do anything like that with her!

Anyway, she has a victim who has foolishly gave her a ring in the hope she doesnt take 1/2 his stuff for the rest of his life.

Lifes too short to worry about a few quid here and there, you cant spend it when your dead.
He says as he eyes up £600 dvd/gps upgrade for the freeby. :D

I'd trade with you any day , over here in Ireland my wifes 1.8 Freelander costs €592 (£484 ) per year road tax and if it was a Td4 it would be €660 or £539 pounds sterling........
And you really think you're being shafted .....?

Here in the Netherlands I pay euro 145,- a month road tax for my 2005 Td4. Full coverage insurance with maximum no-claim is about euro 65,- a month.

Guess why I'm not driving a Discovery 3 for more than euro 200,- a month on road tax en about euro 80,- insurance.

Can I just confirm ,
It costs you a total of € 210 a month for combined road tax and insurance for your FL ?
If so that is a horrendous sum to drive a car on the road.
I'm about €1000 a year which is way short of your annual total.

Sad enough I can confirm that.
Road tax in the Netherlands is based on the weight of the car, the fuel and the province you live in. My car weghts 1593kg an I live in the province Limburg.
Wegenbelasting Berekenen Auto - Wegenbelasting berekenen voor uw auto!

I'm 47years old and have maximum no-claim discount. a Full coverage insurance is based on the weight and the new price of the car. The new price in october 2005 was € 43.000,-. a partial coverage insurance, which I'm thinking of costs about half.

I like the Freelander very much, but would rather drive a Disco3. Sadly enough I think it is family budget wise irresponsible to do for me. :(

Firsly , i do empathise with steely dan and silkwood on the high road taxes they pay  to keep their freelanders on the road , it makes the UK look like a tax haven ! :D at the end of the day it is what you are able to earn in a year as to how you view any tax increase :)
