td4 nasty nocking urgent help please

hi as above car was running great just went on a 20 mile run stopped all was ok, when i started it up again there is a bad rattle/knocking almost like a chain rattle!! but if i rev it slightly it all goes quiet, been told it could be the belt tentioner/pully can anyone help dont want to drive it sounds bad

thanks thing is it sounds more like the top of the engine but might just be traveling up i will check tomorrow, typical its snowing and i cant use it

how long is it since you did a service the tappets are dependant on clean oil, also it could be the timming chain that needs to be seen to sooner rather than later .
