Hi Folks,

I've been having trouble with my TD4 spraying oil all over the engine compartment thanks to a split trubo hose and possibly blocked crankcase breather; symptoms also included loss of power and black smoke.

I changed the split hose, replaced the crankcase breather assembly (£25 on ebay from Duckworths LandRover), cleaned the EGR and checked all other vacuum/trubo hoses. I also flushed the oil out of the intercooler.

The mass of black smoke has gone, but I still have a flat spot at roughly 70mph where the engine does not want to give any more. After about 30 seconds you can feel the power coming back and will take the speed up to 80, but then the same thing happens, with the power coming back after roughly 30 seconds.

Note that there's no problem revving the engine to high revs, nor are there any apparent flatspots in the lower gears, but I am still seeing occasional puffs of smoke out the back when driving along and putting my foot down.

Any ideas?

I am a little concerned at the amount of oil that seemed to have got past the turbo, and suspect that the oil seals may have been damaged by the high oil pressure (I had the fountain coming out of the dipstick!). Would this cause the latest symptoms?

Not sure if this doesn't sound like some sort of sensor acting up, hopefully one of the other guys will be of more help. I take it you've run a good quality injector cleaner through, if not then try that, it won't do any harm.

ps the only way to properly "clean" the egr is to ditch it & fit a bypass.

Redex injector cleaner has been added to the fuel but doesn't seem to have made any noticeable different yet.
