I’m not sure what to do next so I’ll tell you the problem and what I’ve done so far.
My car – 52plate TD4 automatic wouldn’t start and the RAC said it was the fuel pump. It went to a garage where it had the connections on the pump cleaned up as they were dirty. It started and has done ever since. Now there is a problem changing gears. If I’m at a stand still and floor it, the revs will go up but the car will crawl along. If I take it steady the car will change up ok. If I’m driving at speed and again try to accelerate hard it used to kick down and pull away nicely. Now it will only rev high with no gear change at all. I took it to a garage and they plugged it in to a scanner to see if it had a fault code. It came back with P1260 – Delivery fuel pressure management. He cleared the code and I took it for a drive but it was still the same. He re-connected it and the fault code was back. He typed the fault code into autodata and it came back with a different fault – P1260 Fault location -Engine disabled by PATS. Problem cause – Incorrect/damaged key, wiring, immobilizer defective, ECM.

I have no idea what I should do now. The car drives ok as long as I don’t need any quick acceleration. What should I do?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice

My guess is the amount the fuel pump can deliver is no longer sufficient to cover the extra needed fuel if accelerating quickly. When driving normally it is possible it's still sufficient. Has the fuel filter been changed since 2001 ?

Willo's reet.. check out fuel filter, un a quick test of fuel flow..

Pull off the fuel pipe that comes from the filter, at the T piece, un
switch on ignition.. there shud be a good pressure of fuel ****in out!!

Dont forget to use a can!!

??? this doesn't sound like A fuel fault???? this sound like a auto box fault and as the engine would run rough or not rev if you had fuel pressure faults!!!
and if it was A key or immob fault then it would not start!

hows the oil look in the auto box?

Check yer inlet turbo rubbers int got any small oles. . . .then wot Willo un Green un say's. . . . .

Hi there

I had a problem like this and it was found to be the camshaft sensor. I change fuel pump, filter you name it it was changed trying to find the problem. In the end I went to Land Rover agent they put it on one of these fault machines and thats what it come up with P1260. When I ask why the poor accelerating I was told the ECM has that code placed into it to stop over rev of the engine just so you can get home or to a garage for assistance.

Hope this helps Steve.

I suspect 2 things here - sounds like your fuel pressure is causing a problem that's resulting the fault code. New filter would do no harm, but it could be pump related also so check for fuel pressure as greenie suggests.
However, as Hollie mentioned I also think there's some auto-box issues here too - perhaps get the fluid levels in your transmission checked pronto.
