Hi folks

My 2002 freelander auto sort of jumps out of gear when going down hill while letting the engine do the breaking but when you accelerate it is still in gear. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong and weather it is likley to be something that can be fixed at home.

thanks :monitor_punch:

this one only a month, but used to have a range rover auto but never noticed it in that. Are you saying thats the way they are ?

the only mechanical link between engine and gear box is lock up clutch in torque convertor uness its locked or you have enough revs it will free wheel ,does it feel different since youve had it ?

The noises are easy to ignore its the sudden acceleration in a freelander diesel that is difficult to come to terms with :D

What you describe sound like perfectly normal behaviour of a Freelander 1 TD4 auto-box.

Mine has done that since new.

Going slowly down a steep hill, if I take my foot off the brake i will only get engine braking for a very short distance before it starts to freewheel.

You just don't notice it after a while.

Even if you're driving on the level at about 30mph and take your foot off the accelerator, the revs will drop to idle level.

Singvogel.
